Why Do Early Box Office Numbers Dictate Whether a Movie Is Considered Good?

When a movie has a huge opening weekend, people often assume it's a success. When it performs poorly, the conversation can quickly shift toward calling it a flop—even before most people have had a chance to watch it. Should a movie's box office performance influence how we judge its quality, or should the audience and critics decide that separately?

Box office is not all about quality. I said this because I have seen great movies flop and bad ones do well before. I think the numbers were greatly affected by marketing and timing.

I beg to differ. There's no movie that did well at the Box office that's a flop in terms of context. Can you name one movie that was a success in Box office but you consider it a flop.

Movie collections in first few days and first few weeks decide whether the movie will be hit or flop. However, box office numbers isn’t determining factor for whether the movie is good or bad. A movie succeeding commercially does not always mean it was very good movie

I strongly dislike box office reviews. I’ve liked a lot of movies that haven’t done so good with the box office and a lot of the cult classics didn’t do too great at the box office, yet they’ve got very good fan bases.
